FACEIT Bans Explained: Reasons, How Long They Last & How to Appeal (2026)

Why FACEIT bans players — smurfing, dodging, AFK, verbal abuse, ghosting, VAC — how long each ban lasts, whether you can play with a VAC ban, and how to appeal a FACEIT ban.

Got a FACEIT ban and not sure why, how long it lasts, or whether you can lift it? FACEIT hands out bans for everything from dodging a match to smurfing, toxicity and cheating — and each type has its own duration and appeal path. This guide breaks down every reason FACEIT bans players, how long each ban lasts, the truth about playing with a VAC ban, and exactly how to appeal.

Why FACEIT bans players

Almost every FACEIT ban falls into one of these categories:

  • Dodging / declining / no-show — leaving the queue, not readying up, or never joining the server.
  • AFK / abandoning a match — going idle or quitting an ongoing game.
  • Verbal abuse & toxicity — offensive language, harassment or unsportsmanlike conduct (often after reports).
  • Ghosting — relaying enemy info (e.g. from a stream) to your team.
  • Smurfing — playing on a second, lower-ranked account to stomp lobbies.
  • Cheating — any cheat the FACEIT Anti-Cheat detects, plus VAC-related flags.
  • Multiple accounts / ban evasion — making a new account to dodge an existing ban.

How long is a FACEIT ban?

Most behaviour bans are temporary and escalate: your first one is short, and every repeat within a window gets longer. Cheating and ban-evasion are the exceptions — they are usually permanent. Typical ranges:

ReasonFirst banRepeats
Dodge / decline / no-show~10–30 minHours, then days
AFK / abandon matchMinutes to hoursEscalates to days
Verbal abuse / toxicityHours to daysDays to weeks
GhostingDaysUp to permanent
SmurfingAccount banPermanent on the account
Cheating / ban evasionPermanentPermanent
FACEIT tunes these durations over time, so treat the table as ranges, not a guarantee. The exact remaining time always shows on your profile and in the ban notice.

Dodge, AFK and no-show bans

Declining a match, not clicking ready, leaving before it starts (a "dodge"), going AFK or abandoning mid-game all trigger a matchmaking cooldown. The first one is short — often around 10 minutes — but repeated dodges in a short period stack into multi-hour and then multi-day bans. The fix is simple: only queue when you can actually play the full match.

Verbal abuse and toxicity bans

"Verbal abuse" on FACEIT means offensive language, harassment or unsportsmanlike conduct reported by other players. These bans are usually temporary cooldowns that grow with each repeat, and a pattern of reports can escalate to a long suspension. If you believe a verbal-abuse ban was unfair, you can appeal it (see below) — but mute-and-report is always the safer play than firing back.

Smurfing bans

A smurf is a strong player on a second, lower-level account. FACEIT detects smurfs through anti-cheat signals, win/stat anomalies and player reports, and a confirmed smurf account is typically banned outright. Playing on a smurf to stomp lower lobbies risks losing that account permanently. If you keep running into suspiciously strong opponents, here is how to report a smurf on FACEIT.

Ghosting bans

Ghosting is passing live enemy information to your team — most often from a stream or a spectating friend. FACEIT treats it as cheating-adjacent: confirmed ghosting earns multi-day bans and, on repeat, can become permanent. If you stream, use a delay.

Can you play FACEIT with a VAC ban?

Short answer: usually yes. FACEIT runs its own kernel-level anti-cheat, so a VAC ban on your Steam record does not automatically lock you out — plenty of players with old VAC bans queue on FACEIT normally. The catch: FACEIT can still restrict accounts it flags, a very recent or game-relevant VAC ban can block you, and a separate FACEIT ban (from its own anti-cheat) is permanent and not the same as VAC. So a VAC ban alone rarely stops you, but it is not a guarantee.

Hardware bans and multiple-account bans

For the most serious offences (cheating, ban evasion) FACEIT can apply a hardware ban that ties the block to your machine, not just the account — so making a fresh account does not get you back in. Creating new accounts to dodge a ban is itself a bannable offence (ban evasion) and usually ends in permanent bans across those accounts. The only legitimate route back is an appeal on the original account.

How to appeal or remove a FACEIT ban

You cannot "skip" a temporary cooldown — you wait it out. But for bans you believe are wrong, you can open a support ticket:

  1. Check the reason and timerOpen your FACEIT profile / the ban notice to see the exact reason and how long is left. Short cooldowns (dodge, AFK) are almost never overturned — just wait.
  2. Gather evidenceFor wrongful bans (e.g. a false verbal-abuse or cheat flag), collect demo links, match room URLs, chat screenshots and your match ID.
  3. Open a support ticketGo to FACEIT Support and submit a request under the right category (ban / appeal), with your account and evidence attached.
  4. Be factual, not emotionalExplain clearly what happened and why the ban is wrong. One well-argued ticket beats ten angry ones.
  5. Wait for the responseAppeals are reviewed by FACEIT staff and can take time. Do not make a new account while you wait — that adds a ban-evasion ban on top.
Most temporary bans come from tilt — dodging or flaming a lobby that already looked lost. FACEIT Grind reads every player in your lobby before the match and shows win probability by map plus a 0–100 smurf score, so you go in informed instead of rage-dodging. It also makes reporting smurfs and toxic players faster.

FAQ

How long is a FACEIT ban?

It depends on the offence. A first dodge or AFK ban is usually around 10 minutes and escalates with repeats; verbal-abuse bans run hours to days; smurfing, cheating and ban evasion are typically permanent on the account.

Why did I get banned on FACEIT?

The most common reasons are dodging/declining matches, going AFK or abandoning, verbal abuse reported by others, ghosting, smurfing or an anti-cheat flag. The exact reason shows on your profile and in the ban notice.

Can I play FACEIT with a VAC ban?

Usually yes — FACEIT uses its own anti-cheat, so an old VAC ban on your Steam record generally does not block you. A very recent VAC ban or a flagged account can still be restricted, and a FACEIT anti-cheat ban is separate and permanent.

How do I appeal a FACEIT ban?

Open a ticket at FACEIT Support under the ban/appeal category with your account details and any evidence (demo, match ID, screenshots). Temporary cooldowns like dodge bans cannot be appealed — you wait them out.

Can I get unbanned by making a new account?

No. Creating a new account to dodge a ban is ban evasion and gets both accounts banned, often with a hardware ban. The only safe route back is an appeal on the original account.

How long is the ban for smurfing on FACEIT?

A confirmed smurf account is usually banned permanently. Smurfing is detected through anti-cheat signals, stat anomalies and reports.
