CS2 Team Roles Explained: Which Ones Exist & How to Find Yours

The roles in a CS2 team — entry fragger, AWPer, support, lurker and the star carry — what each does, plus how to see your own role automatically in your FACEIT lobby.

Every CS2 team is built from roles. Some players take space and open rounds, one holds the AWP, another throws utility so the team can move, and someone roams for picks. Knowing the roles — and which one fits you — is the difference between five players and an actual team. Here are the roles in CS2 and how to find the one that matches your own stats.

The roles in a CS2 team

RoleWhat they do
Entry fraggerFirst into a site, trades space for opening duels and creates room for the team.
AWPer / sniperHolds the AWP, locks down angles and long lines, and converts picks into map control.
SupportThrows flashes, smokes and molotovs so others can enter or hold — the utility backbone.
LurkerPlays away from the team, gathers info, cuts rotations and punishes over-commits.
AnchorHolds a bombsite on defense, often solo, and stalls executes until help arrives.
Star / carryThe aggressive fragger the round is built around — high impact, takes duels and clutches.

What is the "donk" role?

A lot of players search for "donk's role" because of his style for Spirit. donk is the textbook star / aggressive entry: he takes early duels, plays for tempo and is the player the round is built around, with rifle and AWP both on the table. It is a high-impact, high-risk role — you trade safety for first kills and map control.

How to find your own role

You do not pick your role from a menu — it shows up in how you actually play: your opening duels, AWP kills, utility damage and clutches. That is exactly what the FACEIT Grind role card reads. In your FACEIT lobby it analyses each player's match stats and shows a role automatically, so at a glance you see who on your team is the sniper, who is the support, who opens and who clutches.

GRIND maps every player to one of these roles right in the matchroom:

  • Sniper — built around the AWP.
  • Opener — the entry fragger taking first duels.
  • Anchor — the site holder on defense.
  • Clutcher — comes alive in 1vX situations.
  • Utility Expert — the support / nade-heavy player.
  • Carry — the all-round fragging core of the team.
  • Hybrid — no single standout — flexible across roles.
Every role above is detected automatically from match data — no setup. Install the extension, open any FACEIT lobby, and the role card shows your role and your teammates' roles before the match starts.

FAQ

How do I know my own CS2 role?

Your role shows in your stats — opening duels, AWP kills, utility damage and clutches. The FACEIT Grind role card reads those numbers and shows your role automatically in the matchroom.

Yes. The GRIND role card shows a role for every player in the lobby — sniper, opener, anchor, clutcher, utility expert, carry or hybrid — before the match begins.
